We invite you to worship with us. We are a welcoming church and are open to all who are seeking a new relationship with God.
Worship is centered around the Eucharist, or communion, and is based on the liturgy found in the Book of Common Prayer. We realize that sometimes newcomers are confused when they first attend a worship service and try to juggle the prayer book, the hymnal and whatever else is handed out that day! We try to explain where we are in the weekly bulletin and we hope someone will help you feel comfortable. The service is divided into two main parts: the service of the Word, that includes a reading from the Hebrew Scriptures, a psalm, and a reading from the New Testament, usually one of Paul’s letters. The Gospel from the day is then read and that is followed by a sermon; the creed and the prayers. After the peace and the offertory we focus our attention and join in saying the Eucharistic prayer.
Our two services on Sunday differ quite a bit, though both are centered on the Eucharist. The 8 o’clock service is known as Rite I, with more formal language and a more penitential feel to the communion. It is a quiet service without music – though sometimes we are moved to sing anyway! The 10 o’clock service is a livelier service with choir and organ and a service that follows Rite II in the Book of Common Prayer. We also add different prayers, often written by our parishioners, and different Eucharistic prayers when appropriate. Sunday school also happens during this service and we do have child care available.
